‘Things they buried with the dead…’: hands-on Roman finds session on Sat. 13th August!

Come and enjoy a hands-on Roman finds session with Trust archaeologist Emma Holloway at the Roman circus centre!
A look at things placed in Roman burials in Colchester – what and why! The finds will include pottery and glass vessels, lamps, evidence of clothing and foodstuffs, coins, jewellery, decorated mirrors, and bone and metal hairpins. The highlight will be the chance to see the Roman jet amulet of the head of Medusa, a rare form of protective charm, which the Trust excavated on our site at the Butt Road car-park in 2013.
