On Tuesday (20th December), the new edition of the Trust’s annual magazine – The Colchester Archaeologist no 28, for 2015-16 – was delivered to our HQ at the Roman circus centre.
It is a glossy magazine, 34 pages long, and it is illustrated in full colour. It costs £2.95. The articles have all been written by Trust director Philip, Trust archaeologists and a Trust volunteer, and they include items on our recent excavations at Brightlingsea and at Stanway Fruit Farm, the monumental arcade of the precinct of the temple of Claudius in Colchester, and the really remarkable assemblage of Roman foodstuffs from our excavation within the Williams & Griffin store (now Fenwick) in the High Street at Colchester. There are articles about the medieval cutlery industry of Thaxted and an 18th-century Colchester man known as ‘Duke’ Hamilton. There is also a section about the Friends of the Trust.
This week, just in time for Christmas, the magazine has been posted to all the members of the Friends of the Trust and it will be available to buy in Colchester bookshops or direct from the Trust in the new year.
The images show the front cover, featuring Trust archaeologist Laura Pooley, and an inside spread of the magazine.
