Everybody is very welcome to call in at the Roman circus site on Saturday 8th or Sunday 9th of September to catch up on progress. The Trust has now moved to Roman Circus House, Circular Road North, CO2 7GZ and will be having a n Open Day on those two days (10.00 am to 4 pm) as part of National Heritage Weekend. You will be able have a good look round the building and explore the former garden of the Sergeants’ Mess where the ground plan of the starting gates is to be recreated in three dimensions. Philip Crummy and other archaeologists will be delighted to show you round and explain the future plans for the circus interpretation centre. A selection of some interesting archaeological finds will also be laid out for you to have a look at. Tea and coffee will be available too to encourage you to linger.
If you have ever wondered about getting more involved in a practical way, this would be a good time to find out if there are things which you could do which might interest you. If not, just come along any way and have a wander about.
The nearest car park is the public car park in Butt Road (normal CBC charges apply). See the map given here below. There is a gate at the back of the car park where there are clear signs which will lead you to Roman Circus House. The walk is about 100m long. If you need to drive up to the house, please phone 07436 273 304 Monday to Friday 8.30-5.30 so that special arrangements can be made.
