‘Colchester Recalled’ is our local oral history group. They are a voluntary group who produce and archive recordings of local people talking about their lives or of events. They publish an annual magazine and some of the recordings are available to buy on CD. The recordings can also be accessed at the Albert Sloman Library of the University of Essex and at the Essex Record Office in Chelmsford.
Colchester Recalled meet once a month, on Thursday evenings, and – from this week – they will be holding their meetings here at the Colchester Roman circus centre. At each meeting, they listen to extracts from their oral history recordings and to an illustrated talk on local history by a guest speaker, with refreshments. Their programme of talks for 2017-18 is included below.
The first meeting of the year is on Thursday 14th September, when – appropriately – Trust director Philip will present a talk titled ‘What actually happened at a Roman circus?’.
The meetings start at 7.00 pm. All welcome: admission is £2.00 for members and £3.00 for non-members.
We provide some free car-parking spaces here at the Roman circus visitor centre, and the Butt Road P&D car-park is just round the corner.
