This week saw excavation begin at Colchester Royal Grammar School prior to the extension to the Sixth Form common room. This is an area of high archaeological interest due to the school being located on the route of the Roman road to London. Previous discoveries in the area include extensive Roman burials, the tombstone of Marcus Facilis in 1886 and, more recently, a temple tomb excavated in 2005 by CAT during the construction of a new science block. Hopes are high for new and exciting finds during this current project. Watch this space!
